Alex Cordero WCHS
Cordero was interested in the weather at a young age. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, he likes whenever it snowed. His family moved to South Florida at a young age and that is when his fascination truly shined.
In 1999, Alex had his first encounter with a hurricane. The storm, named Irene, frightened him with it is power but interested him too. The fact is that a storm could do so much damage encouraged him to learn more.
In 2004 and 2005, four hurricanes struck near or directly where Alex lived. They were Frances, Jeanne, Katrina, and Wilma. During those years, his obsession with weather grew dramatically.
Alex, went to Tallahassee to study at Florida State University and graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology. Soon afterward, he would begin working at ABC 27 in Tallahassee. However, In his five years there, he would cover FOUR more hurricanes, like the devastating Hurricane Michael. Also, he helped to cover several severe weather episodes in North Florida and South Georgia, like the January 22nd, 2017 tornado outbreak, and the March 3rd, 2019 tornado outbreak. Additionally, he even got to cover a rare Florida snow day (though it only snowed 0.1 inches where he was at). Needless to say, he has seen plenty in his young career.
Now in West Virginia, he is ready for the new challenge of how the weather can change further up north. He is excited for more snow in his life and more variability to the weather during the year. In his free time, Alex likes working out at the gym, visiting local coffee shops, and of course, watching the sky!
